A special Christmas concert, including readings from St Augustine, is being held tomorrow in Rabat.

The St Paul Choral Society will be singing a repertoire of carols, including Once in Royal David’s City, Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Hark, the Herald-Angels Sing, Ninni, La Tibkix Iżjed, O Ġesù, Ħelwa Tarbija, Joy to the World, Mariä Wiegenlied and many others. They will be accompanied by organist Elisabeth Conrad with Hugo Agius Muscat conducting.

The society is one of Malta’s leading polyphonic choirs with a repertoire that ranges from the 16th century to the present day. Established in 1998, it has around 60 members who meet every Wednesday for practice either in the Undercroft of St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral in Valletta or at the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Naxxar. Since its inception it has been under the musical direction of Agius Muscat.

In between the carol singing, poet, storyteller and theatre performer Glen Calleja will be reading extracts from St Augustine’s writings in Maltese. Calleja himself writes mainly in Maltese but has also published poetry, essays and short stories in English. He is also co-founder of Fondazzjoni AWL, an independent group working on poetry with an interdisciplinary approach.

■ The event is taking place tomorrow at St Mark’s church in Rabat and starts at 7pm. Entrance is free.
