Frozen pitch: Yesterday’s FA Cup second-round tie between Stourbridge and Northampton was postponed due to a frozen pitch. The game, which was due to kick off at 14.00, was one of 10 scheduled yesterday, but Northampton confirmed on Twitter that the War Memorial Ground fixture had fallen victim to the weather. The League One club posted: “Game off… today’s game has been postponed because of a frozen pitch.”

Gabigol: Inter striker Gabriel Barbosa will be leaving the Serie A club in January for a loan move to Marseille in Ligue 1, reports said. Tuttomercatoweb said the 20-year-old Brazilian will be allowed to leave until the end of the season as he seeks regular first-team football. Marseille are coached by Rudi Garcia, formerly of Roma. His club are among several lining up to sign ‘Gabigol’ next month.

Fighting mates: Preston boss Simon Grayson described Eoin Doyle and Jermaine Beckford as an “embarrassment” after they were sent off for fighting in the 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. “I’ve been in the game for 30 years and I’ve never been involved with anything like that,” Grayson said. “I spoke to them in the dressing room and they were apologetic, but that doesn’t wash with me, something like that should never happen.”

Hamburg win: Hamburg celebrated their first win of the season with a 2-0 triumph at fellow strugglers Darmstadt lifting them off the bottom of the Bundesliga standings, yesterday. Michael Gregoritsch scored for the second week running, after grabbing a brace against Werder Bremen, to put the northern side ahead in a game which was understandably scrappy given the stakes. Darmstadt tried to respond in the second half, but Matthias Ostrzolek killed the game off in the very last minute as Hamburg finally won in the league this season at the 13th time of asking.

Futsal: Friendly – Malta vs San Marino 4-0.
