An NGO, Unesco Club (Malta) was founded in 1969 by its first chairman, the late Albert Rutter. Through his initiative, enthusiasm and dedicated leadership, the club has grown by far beyond expectations and has made a name for itself not only in Malta but also in other parts of the world.

The aim of the club is to promote Unesco’s noble ideals and activities in the fields of education, science and culture, and to make better known its work for peace through the defence of the fundamental values of human rights, tolerance, mutual understanding and unity.

From time to time, the club organises various social and cultural activities for its members and guests. Such activities include tours to archaeological sites, educational visits to museums and other places of historical importance. It is also active in showing films and videos, distributing Unesco literature, as well as helping schools and colleges in Malta and Gozo with their projects in connection with Unesco.

Unesco Club (Malta) is a member of both the World Federation and the European Federation of Unesco Clubs.
