The Malta Digital Cluster has been launched to create collaboration between academia, researchers, private sector entities and the public sector to take advantage of growth and new opportunities.

The Malta Digital Cluster, launched by Malta Life Sciences CEO Joseph Sammut and Edwin Ward, chairman of Paragon Europe, will enable its members join the EU ecosystem of digital clusters to find partners and financing, as well as to identify funding programmes, research funding opportunities and EU-funded projects in which the cluster members can participate.

The larger EU-funding programmes have a wide variety of funds available for digital projects such as ICT, IoT, cybersecurity, big-data, cloud and storage, as well as for applications development and ICT projects. The Malta Digital Cluster will also introduce Malta’s platform to international donors such as the EU, NATO, the World Bank, who require service provision.

Emirates has come out on top again as the world’s most valuable airline brand, according to the 2016 Brand Finance Global 500 report.

For the fifth year running, the airline has steadily risen up in the global ranking of the world’s top brands to be placed at number 171, 47 places above the next closest airline brand.

Emirates serves 154 destinations in 83 countries from its hub in Dubai, currently operating 248 aircraft, the first and only airline in the world to operate a fleet of all Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft for its passenger flights.

Emirates also strengthened its global network by launching passenger services to new destinations: Yinchaun and Zhengzhou in mainland China, Yangon in Myanmar and Hanoi in Vietnam and earlier this year introduced a circular service from Dubai to Cebu and Clark in the Philippines. A new service to Fort Lauderdale in Florida, US, will commence on December 15.

Medium Sized Enterprise Survey to provide current industry trends

Mid-tier firm RSM and the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry are collaborating on a research project to measure the prevailing sentiment and trends among middle-market operators in Malta.

The Medium Sized Enterprise Survey is intended to provide benchmarking information at both middle market level as a whole and the individual sectorial levels such as, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, professional and others. It will be conducted twice a year.

Economic data indicates that the middle market segment – those employing between 50 and 250 staff – accounts for around 24 per cent of the local workforce.

Research findings will be presented to key policy makers and relevant stakeholders to further the discussion about strengthening the growing entrepreneurial spirit within the middle-market segment.

RSM is also planning a national conference to discuss the findings after our second survey is conducted.

Survey respondents will receive free access to the conference, a free copy of the survey report, access to member information online and free access to market benchmarks by market and industry sector.
