This week, Spazju Kreattiv brings to Malta Danny Boyle’s smash-hit production of Frankenstein, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in alternating roles as Dr Victor Frankenstein and his brilliant creation.

The exclusive National Theatre Live Encore Series brings back a selection of award-winning British theatre productions to the big screen and this production was a sell-out hit at the National Theatre back in 2011.

The broadcast has since become an international sensation, experienced by at least half a million people in cinemas all over the globe.

Michael Billington wrote in The Guardian: “The actors complement each other perfectly rather than provide a contest and Boyle’s production is a triumph in which Mark Tildesley’s design provides a whole series of visual coups.”

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, to say the least, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile world by his horror-struck maker. Encountering cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless, lonely creature finds himself in an increasingly desperate and vengeful state which leads him to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.

■ The screening is taking place on Thursday at the cinema of St James Cavalier in Valletta at 7.30pm. For more information and tickets, visit http://kreattivita.org .
