There were no major surprises in the opening leg of the three-day EuroSport Malta International Challenge Marathon which got underway with a 16km run in Siġġiewi, yesterday.

Charlton Debono, as expected, won the men’s race in 55 minutes, 37 seconds while the first woman at the gantry was Michelle Vella Wood in 1:11.03. In the Gatorade Relay Challenge, Jonathan Balzan was first runner home in 57:03 followed by Alan Camilleri and Darran Agius.

Today’s second leg – five kilometres – will be held in Marsascala, starting at 2pm.
