The Golden Knight Festival is taking place tonight and tomorrow in St Julian’s.

The festival, which was first held in 1962 with a handful of participants mostly from the UK, this year received 1,300 short-films from 110 countries. A team of six assessors were kept busy during the past months sifting through all the entries until they came up with the best 30 productions to be forwarded for final judging.

A selection of films will be shown today while the winning films will be screened tomorrow, together with the presentation of awards.

The top films are Bon Voyage from Switzerland, a film about a couple enjoying a sailing holiday who come face-to-face with the tragic consequences of immigration; Cuerdas from Spain in which the school routine of the protagonist is altered by the arrival of a very special child; Head from Malta which sees anexperienced sailor who gets locked inside the toilet of a sailing boat that he was delivering to a mysterious client; The Bouquet from France about the adventures of Stephane, a best man on the way to a wedding and Charlotte, a woman who has just tied a funeral bouquet to a tree; and The Ravens, an Australian film which deals with a father who has just returned unexpectedly from war and his troubled family’s journey as they attempt to move towards healing.

■ Both events will commence at 7.30pm at the Le Meridien Hotel and Spa in Balluta, St Julian’s. Entrance is free. For more information, call 9946 0866 or 9947 2513. This event is supported by the Malta Tourism Authority.
