Today’s offering is a violin, cello and organ concert taking place in Birkirkara.

Featuring Andres Uibo on the organ, Alexandra Orlova on violin and Aare Tamessalu on cello, the programme includes pieces by Bacj, Marcello, Weckmann, Handel.

Estonians Uibo and Tamessalu gave a concert with the Malta International Organ Festival in Gozo earlier this week.

Uibo has been chief organist for the St Nicholas Museum-Concert Hall since 1981 and professor of organ music at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre since 1994. His compositions for choir, various instruments, organ and symphony orchestras have been played around the world.

Tammesalu acts as a soloist and chamber musician, performing classical and contemporary music. He is also an active music producer and pedagogue and a member of the Tobias String Quartet and Resonabilis Ensemble. He has premiered several works, including those by his fellow musician, Uibo.

Russian violinist Orlova joined Michail Mindlin’s class at the Saratov State Conservatoire in 2009. During her intensive studies there, she was awarded best performance at the modern composers’ competition. She also filled the role of subleader of her alma mater symphonic orchestra for its 100th anniversary concert held at the prestigious Moscow State Conservatoire’s great hall.  Orlova now resides in Malta where she also plays with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra apart from other ensembles.
