Today’s event is a choir and organ concert taking place in Gozo.

The Giesme Ensemble will take to the stage with soloists soprano Grete Jokubauskiene and tenor Andrius Apinis. Aelita Petrauskiene will play the organ and all will be conducted by Jonas Zeonas Bernadišius.

The programme includes pieces by Palestrina, De Prez, Stocker L. B. Est, Lygutas, Adams, Ciurlionis, Adam, Mascagni, Kreitmaier, Maker, Pauls, Gold, Franck, Brown and Sibelius, with music dating back to the 1400s up to the last century.

The sacred music ensemble was founded in Lithuania by Bernadišius in 1992. Its repertoire consists of West European classical music, performed in Lithuanian and Latin languages. The Giesme Ensemble has won various prizes and awards and celebrated its 500th concert earlier this year.

■ The concert is being held at St Helen's Basilica in Birkirkara at 7pm. Entrance is free. The festival runs until December 9 with concerts taking place in various cathedrals, basilicas and churches across the Maltese islands.
