The Malta Open, an international darts event on the World Darts Federation/British Darts Organisation (BDO) calendar, kicks off tonight. Hundreds of players from across Europe attend each year to compete for the title and ranking points on offer while enjoying all that the country has to offer.

This event takes place at the climax of the world darts season which makes ranking points crucial to ensure players secure a spot at the BDO World Darts Championship which takes place at the historical Lakeside venue in Surrey in January.

During this year’s competition, the Men’s and Ladies’ Pairs competition is taking place today, followed by the Men’s and Ladies’ Singles competition tomorrow and concluding with the Finals night on Thursday. The event sees a high number of registered players from at least 15 different countries.

For the second consecutive year, the finals night will be live streamed on the Malta Darts Association’s You Tube channel.

■ The 29th edition of the Malta Darts Open is being held from today until Thursday at the Topaz Hotel in Buġibba, with play on all three days commencing at 6pm and running till late. For more information, call 7905 2942 or send an e-mail to maltadartsassociation@gmail.com.
