The various salt pans found around Malta are testimony to the importance that the salt industry once had. Those found near Qbajjar in Gozo stretch for about 3km along the coast. These shallow trays were hewn out of the coastal rock over 350 years ago and are still being used today, passed along family lines from one generation to the next.
