What were your main expectations, and were they met?

I failed to see the introduction of any new and innovative ideas with the same verve as last year. There was also not a lot of emphasis on infrastructural developments at University. Matthew Charles Zammit, 22, Bachelor of Laws, 3rd year.

I expected more investment in measures to tackle water scarcity and projects to alleviate traffic congestion, not simply focusing on 18-year-olds and parking areas. J.C. Fenech, 19, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Sociology with Psychology.

I expected that the Budget would take care of those in most need in society. In a year’s time, proper analysis will again be made as to whether people’s lives have been improved or not. Manuel Xuereb, 24, Masters in European law, politics and economics.

What do you think of the new measure offering one year free use of public transport for 18-year-olds?

For University students, it’s too little too late but it will benefit sixth formers – the largest student bracket using public transport. Perhaps the scheme will be extended in future Budgets. Matthew Charles Zammit

The measure might not help with Malta’s traffic congestion issues in the long term as 18-year-olds tend start driving lessons. It may incentivise them to drive a year later rather than make them opt for public transport. J.C. Fenech

It should have been offered to everyone under 20. This would have been a radical measure to reduce future drivers from the streets, and create a culture of bus riding among future generations. Manuel Xuereb

What other new measures would you have liked to seen proposed?

A proper discussion on raising the minimum wage and a national sustainable master plan for transport. Matthew Charles Zammit

Investment in biopsychosocial research on the rise in sexually transmitted infections in Malta to raise awareness, reduce stigma and increase prevention. J.C. Fenech

More measures aimed at reducing pollution, solving traffic problems and reforming the educational system. Manuel Xuereb
