Boxing: Decorated amateur Katie Taylor has swapped to the professional ranks and signed a deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Sport. The 30-year-old, a winner of 18 gold medals as an amateur – including one at the 2012 Olympics – will make her professional debut at Wembley Arena on November 26. Taylor, from Bray in Ireland, turns pro with five world and six European titles to her name, and will quickly follow her debut by supporting heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in Manchester on December 10.

Horse Racing: California Chrome, North America’s all-time leading money earner, heads an impressive list of 14 pre-entries announced yesterday for next week’s Breeders’ Cup Classic. California Chrome, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in 2014, is unbeaten this year after romping to victory in all six races in dominant fashion. ‘Chrome’ has accumulated career earnings of $13.4m and is expected to start the $6m Breeders’ Cup Classic at iconic Santa Anita Park in Arcadia on November 5 as favourite to win.

Sailing: Chinese sailor Guo Chuan has gone missing in the Pacific during his attempt to set a record for a solo non-stop crossing of the ocean. “Guo was last heard just after 15:00 Tuesday Beijing time when his trimaran sailed 900 nautical miles off the west of Hawaii,” the 51-year-old’s support team was quoted as saying yesterday. The US Navy had sent two ships to the site of Guo’s vessel. Guo, who set sail from San Francisco on Oct. 19, was aiming to complete his journey to Shanghai in 18 days. Italian Giovanni Soldini, who skippered Maserati to Multi Hull Line Honours victory at the 2016 Rolex Middle Sea Race, owns the speed record after completing the voyage in 21 days in 2015.

Snooker: Judd Trump is through to the last four of the International Championship in Daqing after overcoming Shaun Murphy on the very final ball of their quarter-final clash. The 6-5 win sees Trump continue his remarkable run of form in 2016/17. It will be his third consecutive semi-final appearance. His opponent in the semi-finals will be home player Ding Junhui who won six frames in a roll on his way to completing a 6-2 victory over John Higgins.
