A seminar tackling the issue of pollution and how we can move towards zeroing our carbon footprint is taking place tomorrow at the University of Malta.

Speakers comprise academics who will be presenting research in the field and include Simon Mizzi who will tackle the issue of the viability of car transport in densely populated areas. Michael Briguglio and Maria Brown will discuss sustainable energy policy and green jobs in Malta from a civil society perspective. Glenn Formosa and Marie Briguglio will talk about the determinants of uptake of a photovoltaic scheme, while Mario Balzan will look at providing nature-based solutions for sustainable development.

Amrita Sen and Sarmistha Pattanaik will take participants to India while looking at the discourse of political ecology, conservation and conflicts in the protected areas, and Sana Huque will question the conversion of East Kolkata Wetlands from the perspective of un/sustainable development.

The conference is open to the public but may be of specific interest to policymakers, students, researchers, activists and the press.

■ Towards a Zero Carbon Society is being organised by the Ceratonia Foundation in collaboration with the Sociology Department at the University of Malta.
