I had an appointment at the Gżira clinic on October 11 at 11am. One is expected to be in time, get to the respective section, sit down and wait to be called. None of this happened.

I arrived at 10.40 and was surprised when informed I had to join an interminable queue to be registered. Register for what? Is not the appointment date on the booket proof enough that the individual is registered and recognised?

The queue was made up of people with similar appointments, others seeking new appointments and some asking for information, all mixed up.

What’s the point of making an appointment, then? This procedure does not make sense. It is simply an unnecessary hassle and an extra hardship, especially for the elderly. Several turned away in frustration and anger.

Once seen by the doctor, I was back in the queue again to make a future appointment, waiting in an atmosphere of mounting tension followed by specimens of foul language. Unbelievable. Don’t we ever get it right?
