McDonald: Hull have appointed Neil McDonald as the club’s new assistant manager. Tigers boss Mike Phelan had been looking to fill the role since former assistant Stephen Clemence’s recent departure to team up with Steve Bruce at Aston Villa. McDonald, 50, has previously worked under Sam Allardyce at Bolton, Blackburn and West Ham.

Erkin: Turkey defender Caner Erkin suffered an Achilles injury in Besiktas’s 3-0 Turkish Super League win over Antalyaspor on Sunday. The 28-year-old, on loan from Inter, came on in the 70th minute but was forced off 13 minutes later with an injury to his left ankle. He reportedly will be sidelined for six months.

Sissoko: Tottenham will not contest midfielder Moussa Sissoko’s violent conduct charge by the FA over an incident involving Bourne-mouth’s Harry Arter. Sissoko, who came on as a substitute in Tottenham’s 0-0 draw against Bourne-mouth on Saturday, appeared to elbow Arter in the face in the second half but escaped punishment. The incident was not seen by the match officials, but caught on video.

Notts County: Tax officials have withdrawn a bid to wind up Notts County. Yesterday, England’s oldest football league club featured in a list of companies facing winding-up orders as a result of owing money at a specialist court in London. But a lawyer representing tax officials asked a judge to dismiss the petition. No detail of money the club had been alleged to owe was given.

Sundowns: Mamelodi Sundowns became only the second South African club to win the African Champions League, holding on for a 3-1 aggregate triumph over Egyptian team Zamalek despite losing the second leg of the final late Sunday. A goal from Stanley Ohawuchi, formerly of Sliema Wanderers, gave Zamalek a 1-0 win in front of 70,000 at the Borg El Arab Stadium but it was not enough to overturn a 3-0 deficit from last week’s first leg.
