Alex Borg started the new Malta Billiards and Snooker Association season on a high note after beating Brian Cini 5-2 in a ranking tournament final played recently at the Vincitrice Band Club, Senglea.

The tournament, the first of the 2016-17 series, saw the participation of  all major contenders for the national title with Juventutis Domus veteran Borg showing that he has lost none of his appetite for the game to stay top of the ranking list ahead of Duncan Bezzina and Cini.

The final, controlled by referee Charles Vella, saw St Joseph BC player Cini go 2-1 ahead but Borg drew level before the break and never looked back after the players returned to the table, also compiling a break of 86 on his way to victory.

Frame scores

(Borg first): 43-62, 69-64, 37-65, 60-18, 61-23, 87(86)-0, 56-41.
