Prof. Joe Muscat Baron, a graduate of the University of Malta, has been honoured by the Royal College of Physicians of London by having the President’s Medal bestowed on him at the Harveian Celebration held on October 21 at the Royal College of Physicians of London. This is a great honour not only for Prof. Muscat Baron but also for the Malta Medical School.

Prof. Muscat Baron was one of the top students of his year, having qualified MD (Malta) in 1958. After working at St Luke’s Hospital, he continued his speciality training in the UK. After a period as a consultant physician with an interest in cardiology, he spent the rest of his career in Dubai. He had a distinguished academic career, was involved in setting up a most successful Medical College in Dubai and was Dean of the Medical College for many years.

He was a very good administrator and a foremost leader of the medical profession in Dubai and the Gulf. He is highly respected and has been a recipient of various honours. Indeed, he was honoured by being made a citizen of Dubai and the Emirates.

Over the years, he was invited by various medical institutions in many countries to deliver lectures and participate in conferences and clinical meetings. He is held everywhere in high regard, is an outstanding academic and a man of integrity.

The Royal Physicians has honoured a first class academic and a true gentleman. Prof. Muscat Baron has made Malta proud.
