After the successful run of Il-Giddieb Għomru Qasir, a Maltese adaptation of Anthony Neilson’s play The Lying Kind last weekend, Unifaun Theatre is now presenting the same play in its original version – English – with a different cast.
Edward Mercieca and Alan Paris take on the roles of Constables Blunt and Gobbel, while Polly March, Antony Edridge, Thomas Camilleri and Michaela Fenech join in the high jinx. Joining them once againas the impressive paedophile-hunter and ball-breaker Gronya is Magda Van Kuilenburg.
Speaking on his experience directing both productions, Chris Gatt said: “From a director’s point of view, it is really interesting to see how language and actors transform a play, taking it in different directions. It was particularly fascinating to see how timing changed from scene to scene depending on a particular actor’s take and also the different rhythms of the language”.
“However, there is one thing I can guarantee”, added Adrian Buckle, Unifaun’s artistic director: “and that is non-stop laughter!”
■ The Lying Kind is being performed at Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta, Msida, on Friday, Saturday and Monday, at 8pm. Tickets can be bought online at www.ticketline.com.mt or from Embassy Cinemas, Valletta. For more information, call 79056558.
A minimum age of 16 is recommended for this production due to some coarse language.
