Julio Tironi, group transport division director at Autobuses de León, is right in saying that all those cars don’t fit on the streets of Malta. I think that small countries like Malta should have a full capacity limit to inhabitants. Tourism is good, foreigners should be welcome to work here too, but there should be a limit. The whole world cannot come to live here!

I do not agree with him placing the blame on having a car. It’s not having a car that’s wrong. Why should one be taxed more? Very busy persons cannot rely on the bus service. Too much time is lost waiting at bus stops. If it is full, and you are standing, being tossed around or having to brush against unwashed bodies is ugly.

Also we must not forget those many roads that had an overtaking lane and have had it removed to be replaced by a wide pavement –  for example the one at Attard. Parents of very young children have to take their children to school because they need car seats and no vans have them.

Parents who choose to send their children to school outside their home village have a reason. They do not want their children to mix with the psychologicalor physical bullying children. Some teachers close their eyesto bullying. They do not wantto be bullied themselves by violent parents.

You see, Tironi cannot just see his own side of the argument. I am sure that all who use their car in the rush hour do not do it for fun. They all have a valid reason.
