Prade: Serie A club Sampdoria announced the appointment of Daniele Prade as their new technical director, yesterday. “UC Sampdoria announces that, from today, Daniele Prade will hold the role of technical director,” a statement confirmed. “President Massimo Ferrero and all members of the club wish him good work.” Prade was formerly employed by Roma and Fiorentina.

Armenia: Artur Petrosyan has been appointed coach of Armenia, the national football federation (FFA) said in a statement yesterday. The 44-year-old, who won 70 caps for Armenia, has been in charge of FC Zurich’s youth team since 2010. He will officially take over on November 1, succeeding Varuzhan Sukiasyan who stepped down last week. Armenia have lost all three of their qualification games for the 2018 World Cup.

Sprake: Gary Sprake, Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper for much of their glory years in the 1960s and 1970s, has died at the age of 71. Sprake played over 500 games in an 11-year spell when the club won the top-flight title in 1969, the League Cup in 1968 and two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, the fore-runner to the Europa League, in 1968 and 1971. Leeds will remember the former Wales keeper with a minute’s ap-plause before next Tuesday’s Lea-gue Cup game against Norwich.

Fosu-Mensah: Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has signed a new long-term contract with the club. United boss Jose Mourinho had been keen to tie down the highly-rated 18-year-old, who has im-pressed him during his time at Old Trafford. And Fosu-Mensah’s new deal means he will stay at the club until 2020 – with the option to extend for a further year.

Stubbs: Alan Stubbs has been sacked as manager of Rotherham United. Former Hibernian boss Stubbs was only appointed during the summer but he has found life south of the border in the Championship tough, winning just one of his 13 league matches in charge. The Millers are already six points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table.
