Pianist and conductor Michael Laus is giving a solo piano recital at the Mdina Cathedral Museum on Friday.

This will be the first in a series of performances being organised by the museum under the title Historical Piano Concerts. The aim is to instil interest in classical music and to reach a wider audience through the use of the forgotten and beautiful sonority of historical pianos, housed within inspirational and original venues.

Mro Laus will perform on a grand piano made in 1890 by the famous Blüthner firm.

The programme includes Schubert’s Three Piano Pieces D 946, Brahms’s Two Rhapsodies Opus 79, Beethoven’s Sonata Pathetique Opus 13 and Liszt’s Vallée d’Obermann.

Patrons will also be able to view the artistic  treasures in the three main halls of the museum.

■  Friday’s concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets may be  obtained from the  Cathedral Museum Mdina, Embassy Complex box office in Valletta and at the door subject to availability. For more information, call 7905 4688 or send an e-mail to info@nikolaivukovic.com.
