Rugby Union: Munster head coach and former Ireland international Anthony Foley (picture) has died overnight at the team’s hotel in Paris, the Irish Rugby Football Union said yesterday. Foley was 42 years old and no details about the cause of death have been made public. “It is with deep regret that the Irish Rugby Football Union and Munster Rugby must advise of the passing overnight of Munster Rugby head coach Anthony Foley, at the team hotel in Paris,” read a statement on the Irish Rugby federation website.

Tennis: Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki captured her 25th career Tour title when she beat unseeded Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic 6-1 6-7(4) 6-2 in the Hong Kong Open final yesterday. The 26-year-old Wozniacki, who will now move back into the world’s top 20, has been in fine form, winning 19 of her last 22 matches, but was pushed to her limits by Mladenovic during an intense two-hour 40-minute final.

Golf: Alex Noren underlined his status as Europe’s hottest golfer by grabbing a third victory in eight events at the British Masters yesterday, becoming the first man to win three times on the tour in 2016. The 34-year-old took a three-stroke lead into the final round at The Grove course just outside London and the cool Swede was never headed as he compiled a closing two-under-par 69 for an 18-under aggregate of 266. Noren, who also won the Scottish Open in July and last month’s European Masters in Switzerland, finished two strokes clear of Austrian Bernd Wiesberger (67).

Superbikes: Ducati’s Chaz Davies claimed his fourth victory double of the season while Jonathan Rea moved closer to retaining his World Superbikes title in Jerez. Davies comfortably beat Kawasaki pair Tom Sykes and Rea in race one and it was a similar story yesterday as the same three riders secured podium finishes. Rea’s second-place finish in race two means he needs only two points on the final weekend in Qatar to become the first rider to win successive championships since Carl Fogarty in 1999.

Cricket: Sabbir Rahman is among four new faces in Bangladesh’s 14-man squad for the first Test against England in Chittagong. Rahman was fined 20 per cent of his match fee for his role in the angry on-field exchange between several Bangladeshi fielders and stand-in England captain Jos Buttler during the second one-day international last week. But the 24-year-old, who has played 29 ODIs and 26 Twenty20 internationals, could be in line to make his Test bow when the two teams meet at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium from Thursday.
