Bundesliga: RB Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg secured a 1-0 win at VfL Wolfsburg with a second-half goal to atone for earlier missing a penalty as the promoted club moved within two points of the Bundesliga top spot yesterday. The 24-year-old Swede missed the target with his 17th minute spotkick but did much better in the 70th when he was left far too much space and curled the ball past keeper Koen Casteels from 20 metres for his third goal of the campaign.

McNamara: York have appointed former Celtic captain Jackie McNamara as their new chief executive just six days after his resignation as manager. Gary Mills was appointed first-team boss of the North Yorkshire club for a second time yesterday morning, before the surprising news that McNamara would be staying at Bootham Crescent was also announced. The club said McNamara, a former manager of Partick Thistle and Dundee United, would “focus on all operational aspects”.

Sheffield Wednesday: Sheffield Wednesday denied Huddersfield a return to the top of the Championship with a 1-0 win at the John Smith’s Stadium. Fernando Forestieri’s second-half penalty was enough to separate the sides in a thunderous Yorkshire derby played out in front of a crowd of 22,368.

N’Zonzi: Barcelona have identified Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi as a transfer target as they seek to provide back-up for Sergio Busquets, reports said. N’Zonzi spent six seasons in England, three with Blackburn Rovers and another three at Stoke City before moving to Sevilla last July, where he has courted attention from the Catalan giants.
