Over 60 priests and a sizable congregation of faithful last Sunday took part in a diocesan pilgrimage from St Augustine Square, Victoria, to the church of the Blessed Virgin of Pompeii in the city, organised by the Gozo diocese. The church’s main altarpiece of the Blessed Virgin of Pompeii by Lazzaro Pisani was carried during the procession. The painting was crowned 50 years ago on October 16, 1966, by Gozo Bishop Joseph Pace. The event also coincided with a Marian jubilee celebrated by Pope Francis in Rome. At the end of the procession Gozo Bishop Mario Grech led a concelebrated Mass in front of the church.
