Following worldwide reports of incidents regarding overheating and combustion of the Samsung Note 7 mobile phone, the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority has been investigating this issue nationally.

From information provided by the local brand’s representative, it has resulted that the product was recalled and sales stopped prior to any affected products reaching our shores. The investigation also showed that products sold from the brand’s official sites were not distributed to Malta.

Furthermore, the authority has been in contact with its counterparts across Europe. Most European States have a similar case to Malta, where the product was recalled prior to distribution.

This shows that it is highly unlikely that affected products are to be found locally.

Nevertheless, if consumers have purchased such a device, it is best to switch it off and contact the economic operator in question for information regarding the recall of the device.

For more information regarding this recall or any other product safety issues, contact the MCCAA by calling 2395 2000, freephone 8007 4400 or e-mail info@mccaa.org.mt.
