Listeners of the state radio are complaining that certain bus stops are too far away from health centres. Special reference is made to the health centres of Birkirkara and Paola which incidentally were referred to.

An elderly listener who usesa walking stick (if I am not mistaken he hails from Balzan), complained that every so often he has to visit the Birkirkara health centre. The nearest bus stop to the health centre is quite a good distance away.

Now, with winter round the corner, he is asking the authorities concerned to see that the bus stop is moved nearer to the health centre. He also said that when he contacted Transport Malta, he was told that there are distances to be respected.

Another elderly listener who called from Żabbar and who goes to the Paola health centre for his medical needs said that the nearest bus stop is one situated near the prisons. Again!

Quite far away for an elderly person to walk it to the health centre rain or shine.

One wonders who decides where bus stops are fixed. The majority of those visiting health centres are mostly elderly. Shouldn’t these people be treated better? Being an elderly person myself, I feel we already have too much on our plate.

Why shouldn’t life be made easier for us? Forget about certain bureaucratic measures which might not mean anything except making life more difficult for us who already have more than enough to face.
