Two orchestras will come together in one concert in Gozo on Sunday. The Gozo Youth Orchestra will perform with the Eurode Jugendorchester Herzogenrath as part of an  Erasmus programme, which already saw the Gozitan youths touring Germany in September 2015.

The joint concert, Celebration of Youth Creativity, will feature the two ensembles, comprising 70 musicians, under the direction of Joseph Grech and Martin Eibach, musical directors of The Gozo Youth Orchestra and the Eurode Jugendorchester Herzogenrath, respectively.

The programme includes Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, What’s Up at the Symphony, The Hey Song, Treasure by Bruno Mars and a pop concerto featuring the promising 10-year-old festival winner, pianist Daphne Delicata. A dedicated Introduction to Orchestra concert will be held today for schoolchildren.

During their eight-day stay, the German musicians will participate with their Gozitan counterparts in workshops and masterclasses tackling subjects from education to culture.

■ Sunday’s concert is taking place at the MBC Theatre, Mnarja Band Club, Nadur, Gozo, at 5pm. Entrance is free. This project was made possible through the Erasmus programme through the EUPA Agency in Malta, MEUSAC, the Gozo Culture Office within the Ministry for Gozo, the Mnarja Band Club and the Nadur Local Council.
