Spazju Kreattiv brings the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet live to the big screen this season, starting on Sunday.
The opening ballet, The Golden Age, is centred on a seaside town where business and mafia are flourishing. The Golden Age cabaret is the favourite nightly hang-out of dancers, bandits and young revellers. A young fisherman, Boris, falls in love with Rita, a beautiful dancer, but also the friend of the local gangster.
Set to music by Shostakovich, this ballet has practically everything in it – from mad rhythms to vigorous chase scenes and decadent cabaret numbers. With its passionate love story featuring dazzling duets between Boris and Rita, the Bolshoi dancers plunge into every stylised step and gesture with magnificent resolve.
■ The live performance is being screened at St James Cavalier in Valletta on Sunday at 5pm with an encore on Friday, November 11, at 7.30pm. It is suitable for those aged 18 and over. Spazju Kreattiv is also offering patrons the opportunity to purchase block tickets for the entire Bolshoi programme which runs until April. For more information, visit kreattivita.org.
