Spazju Kreattiv is screening a live performance of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre’s King Lear tonight at St James Cavalier.

The Bard’s tragedy depicts the descent into madness of the titular character who has ruled for many years. As age begins to overtake him, he decides to divide his kingdom among his children, living out his days without the burden of power. Unable to see through the lies of his ungrateful daughters, he finds himself alone in the wilderness to confront the mistakes of a life that has brought him to his breaking point.

Famous Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw once wrote that “No man will ever write a better tragedy than Lear”.

Tonight’s performance directed by Gregory Doran stars Anthony Sher in the role of King Lear with Natalie Simpson (Cordelia), Kelly Williams (Regan) and Nia Gwynne (Goneril) in the role of his daughters.

■ The screening starts at 8pm at the cinema at St James Cavalier, Valletta. It is suitable for those aged 12 and over. For more information, visit http://kreattivita.org .
