What’s with the environmental NGOs? Are they a no, no, no lobby?

They do not want construction in outside development zones and I agree with that.

They do not want land reclamation and I have an open mind on that.

Nor do they want high-rise.

Do they want the status quo? No more building anywhere except in the little that’s left to build over?

They keep referring to the 50,000 (or is it 70,000?) properties that are vacant but they do not say what should be done with them. These properties are privately owned.

Do they want the government to buy them, in which case let’s see how their prices will react. Or maybe they think the government should expropriate them?

The previous administration boasted about building a new school each year. How nice. But did anyone wonder what was done with the school buildings which were being replaced? Were these buildings put to some other use or did they become derelict?

And Simon Busuttil now wants to take the building industry to Gozo, too. His sweetener for the coming election. Has anyone expressed a whimper about that?

Gozo looks like it’s on the way to devastation. Has anyone considered how many vacant buildings there are in Gozo before we start building its agricultural land?
