The Malta Open championships will come to a close at the Marsa Sports Club, this afternoon.

In the women’s Open, Elaine Genovese plays young Alina Shcherbinina in the title decider.

Genovese beat Emma Mallia 6-0 6-1 and Brenda Galea 6-1 6-1 on her way to the final as Shcherbinina eliminated Krysta Dimech 6-0 6-0.

Holder Matthew Asciak takes on Miguel Galea, 16, in the men’s Open final.

Asciak disposed of  Shaller 6-0 6-0, De Laat 6-0 6-1, Carlotti 6-3 6-1 and Agius 6-3 6-1.

Galea beat the experienced Mark Gatt 6-4 6-1, Matthew Griscti 6-0 6-1, Ben Farrugia 3-6 6-3 6-3 and Omar Sudzuka 2-6 6-3 6-4 to reach the final.

The tournament, sponsored by Gatorade and sanctioned by the Malta Tennis Federation, wraps up with the men’s doubles final as Matthew Asciak/Bradley Callus take on Miguel Galea/Omar Sudzuka.
