A debate featuring American speaker Paul Sracic – who will be visiting Malta between October 17 and 19 as part of a US Embassy-sponsored programme on the US elections – and local panelists will be held on October 18 at 6pm at the University of Malta (Valletta Campus).

Dr Sracic is professor and chair of the Department of Politics and International Relations at Youngstown State University in Ohio.

Dr Sracic was selected as a 2009 Fulbright Scholar in Japan and spent a year teaching at the University of Tokyo. He was invited back to Japan in 2012 as part of the Japanese Prime Minister’s Office Visiting Experts Programme.

Dr Sracic holds a PhD and MA in Political Science from Rutgers University, and an AB in Political Science and Economics from Albright College.

His most recent book Ohio Government and Politics (co-authored with William Binning), was published by Sage/Congressional Quarterly Press in March of last year.

His previous book, San Antonio v. Rodriguez and the Pursuit of Equal Education (University Press of Kansas, 2006), was part of a series that was given the Scribes Award for legal scholarship at the 2008 meeting of the American Bar Association.

In addition to his scholarly writing, Dr Sracic is a frequent contributor to the op-ed pages in the United States. His articles on American and international politics and law have appeared in The Washington Post, USA Today, Bloomberg, Inside Higher Ed., The Atlantic.com, and Cnn.com.

Since 2012, Dr Sracic has given lectures at universities and embassies in Japan, China, Belgium, South Korea, Lithuania and Latvia. He has also been interviewed on CNN and NPR. In 2015, he recorded a TEDx talk entitled ‘Ohio, the Swing State’ (available at http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/Ohio-the-Swing-State-%7C-Paul-Sra ).
