Suzanne Buttigieg (picture), the 2016 FIG national champion, will be returning home from the Netherlands this weekend after a 10-day training camp conducted by coach Chantal Jorma at the Breda Gymnastics Centre.

The initiative was made possible through the support of the Maltese Olympic Committee and the contacts of new Gymstars Club coach Harry Staple.

Elite gymnast Buttigieg said the visit to Breda was a useful exercise in her training programme.

“This has been an extremely productive time for me ahead of our major competitions this season,” she said.

“During training I was able to sharpen certain aspects of my exercises and it was also highly motivating for me to practise with gymnasts from another country.”

Buttigieg has formed part of Gymnastics Malta national team for the past three years. The 16-year-old won the first ever silver medal for the country at GSSE level when placing second in individual beam in Luxembourg 2013.

At Gymstars, Buttigieg is coached by Staple and Antonina Uzunova.
