The opening concert for the 2016/7season of the Malta Cultural Institute is taking place tomorrow in Sliema.

The concert presents a collection of well-known and loved music by Maltese composers Charles Camilleri, J. P. Grech, Paul Abela, Frank Vassallo, John B. Dougall, Joe Tanti (The Greenfields) and Freddie Portelli.

The soloists and choristers of the Marie Therese Vassallo Voice Studio, just back from performing at Westminster Hall and Cathedral in London, will sing pieces such as L-Aħħar Bidwi F’Wied il-Għasel and Il-Bajja tal-Mellieħa. They will be accompanied by pianists Michael Camilleri, Rita Paris and Maria Scicluna.

The evening also includes a dance presentation by the Mary Jane Bellia Ballet School.

The audience will also be able to take in an exhibition featuring works by Maltese artist Julia Curmi Cassar.

■  The soireé is taking place tomorrow at the Imperial Hotel in Rudolph Street, Sliema at 7pm. Entrance is free although the organising body appreciates receiving donations at the door to help cover some of the expenses of the evening.
