N. Ireland: Paul Paton and Callum Morris have been called into the Northern Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Germany. St Johnstone midfielder Paton has two caps as Aberdeen defender Morris was part of the squad for the opening Group C qualifier against the Czech Republic. Northern Ireland host San Marino tomorrow and face Germany away on Tuesday.

Mirabelli: Former Inter scout Massimo Mirabelli has become the new director of sport at city rivals Milan. At present, Milan are in the process of being sold to Chinese company Sino Europe Sports with the deal set to be completed by November 20.

Son scores: South Korea got their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign back on track with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Qatar yesterday as Son Heung-min maintained his red-hot club form by grabbing a second-half winner in Suwon. Korea, top of the group on seven points from three games, travel to Tehran for their next fixture on Tuesday. In another group match, Syria stunned hosts China 1-0.

Freak incident: Former Derry City striker Kevin McHugh’s season looks to be over after a freak accident almost completely sliced off his finger, BBC reported. The Finn Harps captain was hosting a coaching session when his wedding ring got caught in a fence. The 36-year-old immediately drove himself to hospital to try and save the finger and was awaiting surgery in Galway, yesterday. Finn Harps are third bottom in the Ireland Premier Division.

Mellon: Micky Mellon will drop down two divisions to become the new manager of Tranmere after leaving Shrewsbury. The 44-year-old told his squad yesterday he was leaving the League One club after almost two-and-a-half years. Shrewsbury later announced Mellon’s exit, with assistant Mike Jackson also departing. The pair are understood to be heading to Tranmere, who sit ninth in the Vanarama National League and sacked Gary Brabin in September.
