Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has suggested that Kim Kardashian is partly to blame for the heist in which she was tied up and robbed of millions of pounds of jewellery.

Lagerfeld said Kardashian West is too flashy with her money, saying: “[She is] too public, too public – we have to see in what time we live. You cannot display your wealth then be surprised that some people want to share it.

“I don’t understand why [Kardashian] was in a hotel with no security and things like this. If you are that famous and you put all your jewellery on the net, you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room.”

The reality TV star left Paris on a private jet just hours after she was robbed of jewellery reportedly worth £9 million at an exclusive private apartment building.

Police in the French capital have described the incident as “extremely rare” and said the robbers were focused on “possessions that had been seen and noticed via social media”.

They are hunting five people in connection with the attack. After forcing their way into Kardashian’s apartment, the robbers held her up at gunpoint and locked her in a bathroom before escaping on bicycles in the early hours of Monday. They stole a jewellery box and a ring.
