The Malta Classic, starting tomorrow, is a four-day classic car event that sees participants from Italy, Switzerland, France and the UK join local counterparts and discerning spectators for a celebration of vintage style and historic cars.

Competing to win this year’s Grand Prix are more than 60 cars, among them a rare 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB. The Ferrari is one of only 176 examples built and is considered one of the top sports cars of the 1960s and one of the “greatest Ferraris of all time”, according to Motor Trend Classic.

The Malta Classic Hill Climb by Thomas Smith opens events tomorrow with a rush of cars racing to climb a magnificent limestone hill overlooking Mellieħa.

Friday sees the Malta Classic Concours d’Elegance by Mdina Glass which celebrates the power and beauty of classic cars in the heart of Mdina. Select car collectors are invited to unveil true automotive gems to the delight of visitors, with spectators encouraged to participate in the spirit of this event by attending in period dress.

On Saturday, the Malta Classic Grand Prix by Chopard sees cars put to the test on a track of tight bends, sweeping curves and inclines that wind their way through a valley of vineyards and terraced hills outside Mdina. Saturday comes to a close with timed drives to determine the starting order of Sunday’s grid.

The real racing kicks off on Sunday with packs of eight to 10 cars taking to the circuit in a thrilling race to the finish line. The winner of the Grand Prix takes home the coveted Malta Classic Trophy and a limited edition Mille Miglia Chronograph by Chopard.

For the first time this year, a delightful exhibition area in the Mdina Ditch offering free games for children, vintage food trucks, cocktail bars and even a vintage barbershop is being held on Sunday. A live music stage in the nearby Tomba Gardens will add to the event’s vintage vibes with a jazz duo, 1960s quartet and swing quintet.

A free shuttle will ferry spectators from exhibition areas to the circuit, while those arriving in pre-1980s classic cars may also make use of the free Classic Car Park conveniently located on the Mtarfa bypass.
