A residential retreat which includes prayer, meditation, sharing and visits to historical sites is taking place next weekend at Mount St Joseph Retreat House in Mosta.

The main theme will focus on mercy in light of this Jubilee Year of Mercy. On Saturday, two outings will take place. Participants will visit the San Pawl Milqi Chapel in Burmarrad in the morning where there will be an explanation of the history of the chapel and of the Roman remains followed by a reflection on a reading from one of the Letters of St Paul. In the evening, a visit to the Mensija chapel in San Ġwann will take place for a penitential service. The historical dimensions of this chapel will be explored prior to the visit.

The retreat will culminate on Sunday morning with the Year of Mercy pilgrimage to be held in Mdina. This includes a visit to the Benedictine nuns’ chapel, a tour of the Carmelites’ Priory, a visit to where the original church of Mdina, il-Knisja tas-Salvatur, was situated and will culminate at the Door of Mercy of the Mdina Cathedral.

■ The retreat is open to everyone and is taking place from Friday evening until Sunday. Jesuit-trained Clare Camilleri, Stanley Fiorini and Maria Theresa Portelli will lead the group. Participants who are unable to spend the night can book as day-trippers. For more information or to book a place, call 2141 6916 or e-mail info@mtsjoseph.org.
