A French court sentenced Paris St Germain defender Serge Aurier to two months in jail yesterday over a run-in with police as he left a night club in May, his lawyer said.

The 23-year-old Ivory Coast national, who had pleaded not guilty to charges of acting violently towards a police officer, remained free pending an appeal. He was also fined €600.

Police said the altercation took place shortly before dawn after Aurier left a night club in the Champs Elysees area of Paris.

Aurier was suspended by PSG in February for several weeks for insulting then team coach Laurent Blanc.

Hessenthaler sacked

Leyton Orient have confirmed that manager Andy Hessenthaler has been relieved from his role.

The former Gillingham boss becomes the first managerial departure in the Football League this term following a three-match winless streak that left Orient 14th in League Two with three wins from nine games.

The 51-year-old, who signed a one-year deal during the summer, took over from former player-manager Kevin Nolan for the final five games of the  2015-16 campaign.

Juve lose Rugani, Asamoah for 45 days

Juventus defender Daniele Rugani and midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah are expected to be out of action for around seven weeks after suffering right-knee injuries in the 1-0 win over Palermo on Saturday.

Scans revealed that Ghanaian Asamoah had ruptured his meniscus cartilage, while Rugani strained his lateral collateral ligament, the club said in a statement.

Asamoah and Rugani will miss at least nine matches, including tomorrow’s Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia.

Mourinho’s message inspired us – Smalling

Manager Jose Mourinho’s pre-match message of embracing the occasion of playing in front of a packed Old Trafford crowd inspired Manchester United to a  4-1 rout of Premier League champions Leicester City, defender Chris Smalling has said.

After back-to-back Premier League defeats by Manchester City and Watford, United were under pressure from their fans and returned to winning ways with Smalling beginning the rout of the champions with a first-half header.

“The boss really wanted to get the enjoyment factor across,” Smalling told the club’s website.

“He stressed how there is  70-odd thousand people in the stands who want to be in our shoes and in his shoes.

“It’s a case of realising how lucky we are and how we should go out there and enjoy it.”

Sterling credits Pep for rise in form

Raheem Sterling has hailed Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for helping him turn around his year, in particular for encouraging the winger to “enjoy scoring goals”.

Sterling found the back of the net only six times in 31 Premier League games last season but has impressed under Guardiola this campaign, scoring four goals in six league games. He was also named the Premier League’s player of the month for August.

“The manager has told me to enjoy scoring goals and seeing the ball go into the back of the net. He gives everyone the confidence, not just me,” Sterling told British media.

Struggling Hamburg hand reins to Gisdol

Struggling Hamburg SV have appointed Markus Gisdol as their new coach, hours after sacking Bruno Labbadia in the wake of a fourth straight Bundesliga defeat.

Gisdol, who formerly coached Hoffenheim and was briefly an assistant at Schalke 04, signed a contract until the end of the season.

“The board signed Markus Gisdol late on Sunday evening. The 47-year old football coach arrived on Sunday for negotiations in Hamburg and signed, according to his own wish, a contract until June 30, 2017,” the club said in a statement yesterday.

Gisdol has his work cut out, with the northern club having lost their last four league games, including Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to champions Bayern Munich.

Swansea planning to give Guidolin time

Francesco Guidolin will be given time to shift Swansea’s momentum after a five-match winless run.

An American consortium led by Stephen Kaplan and Jason Levien took over in July, inheriting Guidolin as manager.

But Press Association Sport reported that a change of boss just weeks into the Premier League season is not inevitable, despite Swansea being without a win since the opening day.

Ryan Giggs and Gianfranco Zola are among those to have been linked with the Swansea job, but Guidolin said after Saturday’s loss to Manchester City that he had not met with club chairman Huw Jenkins to discuss his future.
