DJ legend Fatboy Slim is to perform a charity gig in a bid to help fight global poverty.

The star, real name Norman Cook, will launch Oxfam’s annual music festival, which involves hundreds of gigs of all sizes andgenres taking place across the UK throughout October.

He will mark 10 years of Oxjam by performing at the Oxfam charity store in Dalston, London – a venue which has hosted some quintessential names in UK music over the past 10 years, including Damon Albarn, Jarvis Cocker and The Kooks.

The events are organised to showcase the best of local music and help Oxfam in their fight against poverty.

Also supporting the festival are indie rockers Mystery Jets who will perform in the charity’s Reading store and spin vinyl at various Oxfam shops across the UK.

Cook said: “I’m delighted to be playing at Oxjam’s 10th birthday.

“The festival is an amazing opportunity for local bands and gig organisers to raise the profile of local talent and by doing so help people fight poverty. October is set to be a musical month to remember thanks to Oxjam.”

More than £2.5 million has been raised through the music festival in its 10-year history, with more than one million people attending the charity gigs across Britain.

The Mystery Jets said: “We’re super excited to be running an Oxfam Shop Tour. For us an Oxfam shop is the ‘go-to’ place to get our vinyl and find new inspiration for our tracks.

“Oxfam shop music selections are unlike other music shops, in that you never quite know what diamonds you might find in each shop.”

The Oxjam music festival runs from October 1 to October 31 with Fatboy Slim performing on October 3 in Dalston, London.
