Thirty-five swimmers from the Sirens ASC squad recently travelled to Sicily for a pre-season training camp under the charge of South African Olympic coach Grant Kritzinger.

Kritzinger was assisted by nine members from the Sirens coaching staff including head coach Craig Gibbons and Olympic swimmer Nikki Muscat.

Gibbons said: “We’ve done well in pre-season this year. The sessions focused on technical aspects and broke down strokes to be able to rebuild the perfect technique.

“All our swimmers were pushed out of their comfort zones – in the gym and water.

“Undoubtedly, this was one of the toughest weeks in their swimming careers, but exciting to see where their current limits are. Building on these achievements, we are looking forward to a bright future.”

Endorsing the club’s ethos of friendship and team bonding, the training camp also included brief trips to Mount Etna and the Etna Land Water Park, providing some much-needed light relief in a hard-hitting week.
