September 7 marked a very special day for Marsascala mayor Mario Calleja and Mary Grace Debono, who exchanged marriage vows at Villa Overhills in Birżebbuġa in the presence of their five children and other distinguished guests and friends.

The bride wore an ivory dress made by Mario’s daughter Janice. Going down the flight of stairs of the hall, she was welcomed by her younger son Jan, who led her to the garden where the wedding ceremony took place.

Janice Calleja and Malcolm Debono witnessed the wedding ceremony, officiated by marriage registrar Samanda Xerri, while the duties of best man were carried out by Peter Paul Zammit, Glen and Raffaele Calleja.

A reception followed in the beautiful gardens of Villa Overhills, where the couple were joined by their families and special guests, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and his wife Michelle, speaker Anġlu Farrugia and President Emeritus George Abela and his wife Margaret, friends and work colleagues.

Mr Calleja is a Labour Party election candidate on the third and fifth districts.
