Sirens 4
Vittoriosa Stars 3

This was a pulsating encounter that saw Sirens hit back from two goals down to beat Vittoriosa for their second win in the league.

Sirens were trailing 3-1 but they never wilted under the pressure as the Stars conceded their first upset of the season.

Vittoriosa’s Obinna Obifuele headed just wide from in front of goal in the opening minute as Sirens had a Christian Caruana shot stopped by the keeper.

Sirens defender Tyrone Farrugia cleared off the line after Leighton Grech had placed the ball beyond the keeper. On 15 minutes Robert Cassar’s side took the lead when Liam Gauci hit home from inside the Sirens box.

The Stars continued to run the show and Gauci made it 2-0, his shot taking a deflection on its way into the net.

Sirens got back into the game just before half-time when from an Ian Zammit cross, Dion Fava headed the ball inside his own net.

But Vittoriosa started the second half strongly and on 52 minutes Grech found space to beat the keeper and make it 3-1.

Sirens regrouped and delivered a series of crosses inside the Vittoriosa box in their bid to get back into the match. On 66 minutes, Charles Newuche nodded down to Caruana who blasted home from inside the box.

Sirens seized the initiative and Jonas Ekani Rodriguez rose high to level matters from a free-kick before Caruana struck again late in the match from another set-piece situation.

Four minutes from time, Stars substitute Gianluca Sultana was sent off for a second booking.
