It's time to move from words to action at UN level, President Marie-Louise Coleiro has told the head of the Commonwealth, amid mounting frustration of delays towards attaining the Sustainable Development Goals.

“There’s too much talk at UN but not enough practical initiatives. We’re wasting everyone’s time,” Ms Coleiro Preca told Commonwealth secretary general Baroness Patricia Scotland during a meeting in New York.

The President was referring to the so-called Sustainable Development Goals, which are aimed at helping end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and fix climate change.

“We are discussing things which don't need money… like addressing poverty and violence against women. We need to review education policies,” the President told Times of Malta.

Baroness Scotland underlined the importance of a strong 53-nation Commonwealth and underlined the importance of having "hands-on" leaders like Ms Coleiro Preca.

A seminar is lined up at San Anton Palace for Wednesday which will focus on 'food and the termination of poverty'. For further details call 2148 4662.
