Andy Borg, Christian Brown, J.J. Micallef and Nick Borg (captain) have just completed their first round at the World Team Amateur Championships (WTAC), the Eisenhower Trophy, being played in Mexico.

Organised by the International Golf Federation, the WTAC is a biennial amateur competition that rotates among three geographic zones : Asia/Pacific, Americas and Europe/Africa.

Malta participated for the first time four years ago in Turkey, placing 65th out of 72 teams followed by a an improved 50th placing (out of 67 entries) two years later in Japan.

This year’s event attracted 71 teams and, after the first round, Team Malta lie 67th with an aggregate of +21 with Scotland leading the field on -10.

The competition sees each side with two or three golfers, each playing 18 holes of stroke play over each of the four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team will constitute the score.

The four-day (72-hole) total will be the team’s score for the championship.

Malta’s participation in Mexico is being supported by Nike Golf, represented in Malta by Time International Sport Ltd.
