St Andrew's fans will long savour their team's 3-0 victory over Sliema Wanderers yesterday as one of the best moments in the club's history.

But fans might also treasure memories of their BOV Premier League opener because of this amazing piece of skill from their midfielder Emmy Manuel Peña Beltre.

Beltre, who joined the club from CD Puerta Bonita last January, scored a goal that will have football fans thinking back to the mazy run by all-time great Diego Armando Maradona that had England fans shaking their heads in disbelief during the 1986 World Cup.

Beltre picked up the ball in his team's penalty box and then surged forward along the right flank before cutting in towards the middle and powering past his hapless opponents. Sliema scrambled to defend but could not contain the midfielder from the Dominican Republic, who stabbed the ball past Sliema keeper Glenn Zammit and into the net.

TVM journalist Sandro Micallef's thoughts immediately went to another stellar Argentine, Lionel Messi. Mr Micallef posted a clip of Beltre's beauty on Twitter, along with the question "can Messi do one like this?"

Take a look at the goal and judge for yourselves.
