I hope that during the Nationalist Party’s mass meeting at the Independence celebrations, speakers will try, in simple and direct words, to explain to the people gathered and those listening in, that under the present electoral system it is nearly impossible for any of the small parties to win a seat in Parliament.
A quota obtained island-wide is of no use; a quota has to be obtained in the electoral district.
If, indeed, people are anxious to get rid of the present government, then the people have to – even against their own convictions – vote for the next strongest party after the Labour Party. Votes for the small parties are a sheer waste. Think about it.
This point should be heavily stressed by PN speakers on radio, in conferences and even during house visits.
Reducing the size of the PN vote means a stronger vote for the Labour Party. This, unfortunately, is an undeniable fact.
