St Martin’s Institute of Higher Education held its annual graduation ceremony, during which 38 students received the Malta Qualification Framework level 5 Diploma in Entrepreneurship, Diploma in Computing and Information Systems and Diploma in Creative Computing. Nine students obtained a distinction.

Benedetta Cappellini, director of the Royal Holloway, University of London International Programme, presented the diplomas to the graduates and congratulated them.

Anna Koval won the Bank of Valletta Academic Achievement Award in Entrepreneurship. Together with runner-up Joudi Dribika, she received a monetary gift by Edward Grech, chief officer, Consumer Credit, BOV, sponsor of this award.

Twenty-eight students scored the highest distinction mark in their respective exams from the Maltese cohort, while four others scored the highest distinction mark globally. James Lanzon attained top global mark in Electronic Commerce, John Sammut in Introduction to Computing and the Internet, Dylan Busuttil in Data Compression and Massimo Saliba in Graphical Object-Oriented and Internet Programming in Java.

Kenneth Camilleri, director of programme accreditation from the National Commission for Further and Higher Education, spoke about the importance of keeping standards in higher education while at the same time being in touch with the realities of students’ needs.

The institute offers a number of diploma programmes which lead to degrees by the University of London. This year, 50 students graduated and will be receiving their degrees during the University of London’s graduation ceremony on March 7 at the Barbican, London, under the auspices of Princess Anne, Chancellor of the University of London.
