The German October tradition of celebrating good beer and food hits our shores this weekend with two separate events, one in Malta and the other in Gozo.

The Laguna Walk at SmartCity Malta, together with Delicia Catering, are hosting a family fest today and tomorrow with activities including a continuous fountain show and dedicated food court serving different German delicacies and beer. There will also be a strolling band, disco domes, a train, bouncy castles, animation, face painting and an all-round lively atmosphere.

The venue itself features a beautiful promenade, grand steps and scenic terraced rooftops overlooking the lagoon, an open-air amphitheatre and terraced seating, all enjoying breathtaking views of the infinity lagoon and the azure Mediterranean Sea.

■ The event kicks off at 6pm and runs until midnight on both days. Entrance is free.

German beer and food also take centre stage at the Għawdex Oktoberfest taking place today, tomorrow and on Sunday at Xlendi Bay. Activities and live music abound with Cash&Band on stage tonight at 8.30pm. The Lost Tourists will entertain the crowd tomorrow and Sunday at 6pm with The Busker on stage at 8.30pm tomorrow and Kevin McGowan and The Roundhouse Kick on Sunday, also at 8.30pm.

The Esplora Interactive Science Centre team will be performing science busking and simple experiments tomorrow and there will also be the opportunity to try out a segway.

■ The Għawdex Oktoberfest starts at 4pm on all three days.
